Technology in Dentistry

Testing, testing. This is Dr. Black writing. I assure you this post is not being written by AI. It is written by me, a human dentist with the intent of discussing the use of technology in dentistry.

Since I began practicing in 2009, the landscape of dentistry has changed significantly. We are working in arenas and technologies that our predecessors never could have dreamed of.

X-rays are shown on a screen instantly instead of being processed in a dark room. 3D images are showing anatomy that has never been detectable in a 2D image. Intraoral scanners are replacing the need for goopy impression materials. Dental materials are becoming faster, more esthetic, and allowing for more conservative treatment options. If you don’t keep your, you’ll be left behind in the blink of an eye!

So what is the purpose of all of this technology? Technology has increased for an increased level of data acquisition. We are gathering more information than never before and it is truly amazing. But the technology doesn’t do the job of interpreting and analyzing the data. That’s where hours upon hours of training and education come into play.

At Blackstone Dental our responsibility is to provide the highest level of USEFUL technology to acquire the data. It is then our duty to provide our highest level of education and training to analyze and use that data in the appropriate way.

No use of technology will ever replace the need for human connection and individualized treatment options.
