You've heard the saying, "when all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail." This phrase is used to insinuate that when you only have one certain set of skills or mindset then every problem you see is give the same solution.

This phrase comes to mind every time I drive down I-15 throughout Salt Lake County. If you believe the billboards and advertisements, then every dental patient in the valley is in need of removing all of their teeth and having a full mouth of implants put in.

While this treatment may be appropriate for some, our philosophy is that removing teeth is a very crucial and life altering decision that is worthy of discussion and exploration of alternative options.

The Problem

The human body is a complex system of biology, environment, and function. Each patient comes with a unique set of risk factors in health, function, and the environment that they live in. When we treat each individual with the same set of options and expect the same level of outcomes, we are most often left confused, frustrated, or upset.

The Solution

Each patient that comes into our office at Blackstone Dental is given a comprehensive medical evaluation and evaluation of their dental history. We assess each individual patient for their unique risk factors in gum disease, tooth decay, acidic erosion, tooth wear, and facial esthetics. After a thorough evaluation and discussion with our doctors, each patient is given a customized treatment plan that meets their goals and expected outcomes.

We want to be fully aligned with our patients in the care that they are receiving and the understanding for why they are receiving this care. Our goal is stated in our core purpose: Creating Confident Smiles, Together.

For some this may be a schedule of routine maintenance and monitoring of conditions. Others require routine dental work to maintain their oral health. And others require a comprehensive solution that rebuilds the mouth to a new functional system.

Each patient is unique in their own desires, biology, function, and situations and deserves their own individualized plan and care.

The Process

Oral health is like maintaining a car. After the initial car purchase, you can't just leave it alone and assume everything will work forever. You wash the car, change the oil, rotate the tires, and have the occasional (hopefully) repair. The mouth is very similar. It requires continuous maintenance, cleanings, and the occasional repair. There is no solution in dentistry that allows for a "set it and forget it" approach. It all must be properly maintained and cared for.

Our goal at Blackstone is to provide our patients with a customized care plan that is specifically tailored to your needs, and then to help you maintain it for as long as possible!
